School Garden Needs Assessment
My name is Jorie Brenner and I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. I am graduating in May with a degree in Sociology, certificate in research, and minor in music. I currently am interning with the Community Health and Wellness branch at FortHealth while also conducting research on the need for school gardens. This research will consist of surveys offered out to community members, school faculty, parents, and those who currently help run the school gardens.
The purpose of this research is the see how the communites around the gardens feel about them, assess what is needed to help them improve, and determine if more garden based curriculum is desired in the schools. The survey will be online, consists of mostly multiple choice questions with a few short answer questions, and will take no longer than 15 minutes to complete. The surveys will be anonymous, only asking for an email address at the end for those who wish to stay up to date with garden initiatives.
Feedback from these surveys will be used in assessing the gardens and what those in the communities around them want out of them. This research may go on to help implement programs in the future and help with future funding. Taking the survey is completely voluntary and no personal record of involvement is needed in order to fill it out.
If you consent to taking this survey, please feel free to proceed to the informed consent which will then lead to the survey that best fits your position within the community in relations to the school gardens.
